The Chemical Lab of Lamia has developed an innovative product that makes it possible to identify the origin of honey and specifically whether it comes from the Greek subspecies of Apis mellifera, a.m. Cecropia.
The aim was to develop a method for a biotechnology product that allows the identification of the genotypic origin of Greek honey samples of a specific subspecies or subspecies. Honeys that come from a. M. cecropia bees show differentiation in their mitochondrial genetic code related to honeys that come from bees of other subspecies of Apis mellifera.
The product was implemented under the Action "RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATE" and was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union and national resources through the EP Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation (EPAnEK) (project code: T2EDK-04902)
Our laboratory is accredited by the state through the Hellenic Accreditation System and operates in accordance with ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 standards.
